An Introduction

The idea of having an active blog has always appealed to me.  Given that I stopped updating my previous blogs due to lack of interest, this appeal is clearly not very strong. Yet here I am giving another blog the old college try.  This current effort is inspired by a blend of cynicism and optimism.

Outside of a basic understanding of fax machines and printers, as well as being pretty good with the 10-key, writing is (allegedly) one of the few skills I have.  I've received enough compliments about my writing to deduce that people are not simply being polite. Of course, given that I have not done any serious writing since college I know my writing skills are raw and with much room for improvement. But with a little dedication and elbow grease, perhaps I can hone my writing into a marketable skill. Lacking that, I hope my writing gives a small but not insignificant amount of people a somewhat regular source of enjoyment.

Now, the problem is that I'm kind of lazy about projects to be undertaken in my free-time. Like most people, I'd rather consume entertainment someone else created rather than make something myself.  Writing is especially difficult because you have to think of something to write, write it, proof-read it, revise it, proof-read it again, revise it, realize everything you wrote is no good and delete it, and start over again. But from the ashes of the cold reality of writing rises a shred of optimism that motivates me to jump back on the blogging train.

My logic behind this blog is that as long as I'm writing something every day (or most days) that eventually the process will become easier. Over time I'll be able to crank out 500-word posts like nothing; and they might even be readable! If I'm consistently craft half-assed posts, maybe one day my posts will become whole-assed. This is to be determined.

In the meantime, I look forward to regularly making posts that, like stories on the even news, have nothing to do with one another.

Enjoy!
